Michael Vick as Eagles starter is not a bad idea

The Eagles could get Michael Vick as the starter

The circus surrounding Vick has been a headache for the NFL in the last few years. There was lots of controversy when he was hired once again. The Philadelphia Eagles took flak from enthusiasts, and not to mention PETA. Questioning the employing of Vick was not exactly unfounded, as he didn’t play football for over two years. He never played a full game and never really saw many series. The starting quarterback, Kolb, was injured in a game against the Green Bay Packers. There was almost a come from behind victory with Vick at the helm. Based on how well Vick does within the role, he may end up becoming the starter for good.

Vick nearly beats the mean Green

The Green Bay Packers headed to Philadelphia for the first game of the season. During the game, Stewart Bradley, a linebacker, and starting quarterback Kevin Kolb sustained concussions, and both left the field. Michael Vick, who had seen limited action in the 2009 season, took over as quarterback. The Mean Green Machine may have actually lost had he gone in earlier, as Michael Vick put in a heck of a performance. Green Bay is already a Super Bowl favored, and Vick completed 16 of 24 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown. Kolb and Bradley both have to pass medical testing to return, which they have not, as outlined by ESPN. Vick, therefore, will start against the Detroit Lions.

Who does not want to visit Detroit?

The Lions game will feature Vick as the starter, as Kolb is still out. Having to choose between Kolb and Vick is a problem you need to have, and Eagles coach Andy Reid may well have that problem should Vick perform well in Detroit. There is a consistent quality that Vick is known for. He is a scrambling, running quarterback. Not cut from the traditional rocket arm mold, he can evade tacklers and find other spots to pass from quickly. Teams with a West Coast style offense, like Philadelphia, are far more dangerous with a running quarterback that can also connect well with receivers; just take a look at what Steve Young did with San Francisco.

Detroit awaits

Essentially, it all comes down to what happens later. The proof could be within the pudding. If Vick is back to Pro Bowl quality, then he may really well become the brand new starter.
